Advisor to Yemen's Supreme Political Council: Trump's Mecca Remarks Reflect US 'Frustration' After Regional Failures

Any offense against the Grand Mosque and the Holy Kaaba represents an unacceptable and deplorable act for all Muslims, targeting one of the greatest Islamic sanctities and the most sacred in the nation's conscience, according to Mohammed Taher An'am, advisor to Yemen's Supreme Political Council.

Hawzah News Agency- He stated that such actions cannot be separated from the state of anger and frustration experienced by the US administration following a series of policy failures in the region.

In an interview with Al-Masirah TV on Tuesday, An'am explained that "the offense against Islamic sanctities reflects, in essence, the scale of fury and discomfort felt by the criminal US president Trump and the extreme right-wing currents supporting him—against the backdrop of successive defeats US projects have suffered in multiple regional arenas, foremost among them Palestine, Yemen, and Iran."

An'am noted that "the US administration has employed various political, military, and economic capabilities over recent years to support the Zionist enemy and enable it to impose hegemony on the region. However, the results have contradicted what Washington and its allies aspired to achieve." US projects faced resistance and steadfastness on several fronts, weakening Washington's ability to impose its political and military will.

He added that the "extreme American right" carries in its intellectual and religious backgrounds "racist tendencies and historical perceptions based on a sense of civilizational and racial superiority"—which explains the repeated manifestations of hostility toward Muslims and their sanctities, particularly as the Islamic nation's presence and ability to impose itself on regional and international equations have grown.

An'am stated that "the transformations the region is witnessing today confirm the failure of Western attempts at hegemony, which sought to subjugate peoples, plunder their wealth, and keep the region under American and Zionist influence." He affirmed that "free peoples have proven their ability to confront and remain steadfast, despite the scale of pressures, wars, and sanctions they have faced."

Discussing official positions of some Gulf and Arab regimes toward the offense, An'am criticized the "silence" that accompanied the crime, considering that "the absence of clear positions reveals the scale of political subservience to the United States and fear of its reactions."

He said "these regimes have become incapable of condemning American or Zionist practices, even when they concern Islamic sanctities or issues affecting the sentiments of hundreds of millions of Muslims—due to their political and security interests being tied to US policies."

He noted that "some governments are not content with silence but work to restrict any popular, media, or political movement that could express rejection and disapproval, fearing to anger Washington or affect their relationships with it." This, he said, is reflected in the level of public freedoms and the positions of elites, scholars, and journalists within those countries.

An'am explained that "fear of the United States has become a governing factor in formulating policies and taking positions for some regimes, making them avoid any positions that could be interpreted as opposition to American wishes—even on issues related to sanctities or religious constants."

He stressed that "experiences witnessed in the region over recent years have proven that the United States is not an absolute power as it tries to appear, and that peoples and forces that confronted pressures and threats were able to remain steadfast, maintain their positions, and achieve important accomplishments despite difficult circumstances."

An'am noted that what has happened in several regional confrontation arenas offers "important lessons about the importance of trust in God, reliance on national will, and not bowing to external pressures." He affirmed that "current challenges require more independent and courageous positions in defending Islamic causes and the nation's sanctities."

He concluded that "offending Islamic sanctities will contribute to strengthening awareness and adherence to the nation's religious and cultural identity, and will expose the scale of contradiction between the slogans Western powers raise about respecting religions and freedoms, and the practices targeting peoples' sanctities and beliefs."
